Getting ready for NCM 2019

Participating teachers can win a voucher for up to € 500.00 for chess equipment, with many more prises of € 100.00 . To qualify for the draw in early December email us  at mfl@movesforlife.ie or join the National Chess Month facebook page and tell us how your class used chess during Nov. 2019.  Here’s some ideas of what you can do:

  • Join in one of our free teacher training evenings at you’re local Education Centre.
  • Play one of the 14 mini-games with your class, demo videos are on our getting started page.
  • Participate in one of our Monster Chess Jamborees.  IF you’d like to organise your own Jamboree .. email us and we will give you financial support.
  • Chalenge another class or school to a match.
  • For students who already know how to play chess  ..  Get free access to Chessossity.com  until 7th of December, your students can then practice their thinking skills in a safe environment .. for details have a look at the short videos on the going further page above.
  • See Intouch magazine for ideas on how to use chess for Maths Week.

Dublin Jamboree

Schools can register for a Chess Jamboree grant at  mfl@movesforlife.ie now
The Talbot Hotel (Stillorgan, Co. Dublin) hosted a large chess event on Friday 12th of April.   Over 170 children from 10 schools enjoyed playing in this larger than normal Jamboree.  Pictured is organiser April Cronin with some VIP guests  INTO General Secretary John Boyle and Comhair Linn’s Brendan Kelly.

Congratulations to St. Mary’s of haddington Rd. Dublin on a 3-in-a-row as All-Ireland champions at primary school level. Pictured below, this team has 3 (or mayybe it’s 4 Irish international player) in their line up !

Girls All-Ireland finals 2019

Congratulations to St. Mary’s N.S. Donnybrook who became only the 2nd ever winner of the Cronin Cup. The top teams from the tournament qualified for the semi-finals.  This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is IMG_1040-1024x768.jpg

St. Rapheala’s Dublin played against Clairnbridge Galway, the match was a draw 2-2 and St. Rapheala’s progressed on a tie break. In the other Semi St. Marys eliminated last years champions from Craughwell Co. Galway on a score of 3-1.
