Dublin Jamboree

Schools can register for a Chess Jamboree grant at  mfl@movesforlife.ie now
The Talbot Hotel (Stillorgan, Co. Dublin) hosted a large chess event on Friday 12th of April.   Over 170 children from 10 schools enjoyed playing in this larger than normal Jamboree.  Pictured is organiser April Cronin with some VIP guests  INTO General Secretary John Boyle and Comhair Linn’s Brendan Kelly.

Girls All-Ireland finals 2019

Congratulations to St. Mary’s N.S. Donnybrook who became only the 2nd ever winner of the Cronin Cup. The top teams from the tournament qualified for the semi-finals.  This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is IMG_1040-1024x768.jpg

St. Rapheala’s Dublin played against Clairnbridge Galway, the match was a draw 2-2 and St. Rapheala’s progressed on a tie break. In the other Semi St. Marys eliminated last years champions from Craughwell Co. Galway on a score of 3-1.

Moves for Life :

Using chess to educate Irish school children by  supporting teachers and schools.  Moves For Life encourages everyone to play and have fun, and enables teachers to use chess to teach further thinking and social skills. 

Features for teachers and Schools :

(1) Getting Started  is for teachers & students playing chess for the  first time.

(2) NCM runs every November to join in email us at mfl@movesforlife.ie

(3)  Education Centers around the country hosted Teacher Training Workshops.

School Chess Calendar 2020-21:

(1) Teachers Online Chess Club:

  • There are two groups:
  • One for beginners  and another for teachers who can play chess.
  • Monday’s at 8pm.
  • Join anytime from now until May 2021.

(2) The ficheall.ie School Chess challenge matches.

Being played in  March / April 2021. Teachers you can register their students here:

(3) The Comhar Linn Online School Chess Championships:

  • Starting at 6.30pm on Thursday the 22nd of April. .
  • The Grand Final is on Thursday, 13th of May 2021.

Step 1 – just register your students on  lichess.org More dtails to follow on the 14th of April.  

(4) The ficheall.ie summer CPD chess course:

This a 5 day course (4 hours each day), which will be held online this year.

(5) Chess 4 Fun, Teacher evening course:

From October 2020 to March 2021.  These free evening CPD courses will return in October 2021.

These training evenings are given in partnership with the Education Centre network.
